چکیده

A strategy for controlling product quality properties, subject to batch-to-batch and within batch disturbances is presented. The methodology is based on readily available measurements, information extracted from existing databases and a few simple identification experiments. This approach extends the mid-course correction control strategies to overcome model error when the process is affected by constant, correlated and uncorrelated disturbances. Adaptive PLS (Partial Least Squares) methods are used to extract the information and to update the models used for prediction and control. The methodology is illustrated with a few emulsion polymerisation examples. Copyright © 2002 IFAC

Iterative Batch-to-Batch Control of Particle Size Distribution in Semi-batch Emulsion Polymerisation

In this article, the control of particle size distribution (PSD) is discussed as a means for the inferential control of the rheology of emulsion polymers. A controllability assessment is presented through a consideration of the process mechanisms to illustrate the attainability or otherwise of bimodal PSD. The suitability of a batch-to-batch iterative feedback PSD control is demonstrated, which...

Modelling and Optimisation of Distributed-Parameter Batch and Semi-batch Reactor Systems

Macro-mixing effects in batch and semi-batch reactors are investigated by constructing 3-dimensional models using a network of zones (NoZ) discretisation. System dynamics including volume changes due to continuous feeding are successfully predicted. Detailed flow fields are calculated from phenomenological correlations which include parameters such as reactor size and configuration, impeller ty...

Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Control of Batch Polymerization Reactors

 It is well-known fact that batch processes are gaining wider ground in chemical industries. Compared with continuous processes the control of batch processes is more difficult because physical and chemical properties of the contents, such as heat capacity, heat transfer coefficient and reaction rate vary from run to run and within runs. The control problem focuses on the temperature control o...

Inferential Iterative Learning Control: A 2D-system approach

Certain control applications require that performance variables are explicitly distinguished from measured variables. The performance variables are not available for real-time feedback. Instead, they are often available after a task. This enables the application of batch-tobatch control strategies such as Iterative Learning Control (ILC) to the performance variables. The aim of this paper is fi...

A Tutorial on Inferential Control and its Applications

In this tutorial, we discuss approaches to control of one or more primary variables in a process using secondary measurements. This approach is useful when the primary variable is not easily measured, or has large time delays or lags associated with it. It is also useful when the secondary measurements contain information about disturbances that affect the primary variable. We start by discussi...
